Grand Lake Area Recreation

We are the western gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. Grand Lake is the largest natural lake in the state of Colorado. Indian Peaks Wilderness Area is close by as well as Arapahoe National Forest. In the winter, you can snowmobile from town to over 150 miles of groomed trails in the national forest. In the summer, the trails are open to ATVs, jeeps or hiking. The Arapahoe National Recreation area has Shadow Mountain Lake and Lake Granby with hiking trails and boat launches. We are about 40 minutes from Winter Park and Mary Jane ski areas. In the summer these areas have an alpine slide and many mountain biking trails.

Some of the summer activities in Grand Lake include golf at Grand Lake Golf Course. It is one of the top courses in the state. There are also at least 3 other courses within a 40 minute drive. You can rent boats an all three lakes for fishing or just cruising and enjoying the magnificent mountains. You can also rent kayaks or canoes. The Grand Lake Yacht Club is the highest elevation licensed yacht club. Enjoy watching the beautiful E and M scows race on Grand Lake during weekends in July and during the first week in August for many cups including the Lipton Cup. There are several stables in and near town to rent horses and ride into the National Park.

The winter activities include cross country skiing or snowshoe in the National Park or at the Grand Lake Golf Course where they offer the beginner to advanced skier a variety of terrain on 35 km of tracked and skating trails. There are also sleigh rides and ice skating during the winter.

Year round there is always something exciting to do in the area of Grand Lake.
